Resident Spotlight: Gerri Langston
Gerri’s life has always been a patchwork of creativity and curiosity. Over the years, she’s worked all kinds of jobs—everything from a funeral home in Tuscaloosa to her favorite role as a clerk at an elementary school. But it’s her talent for making things with her hands that really sets her apart. Gerri can sew, crochet, embroider, scrapbook—you name it. The hand-embroidered quilt she made for her mother now graces the bed in her apartment, a daily reminder of the love and care she pours into everything she does.
Art has also found a special place in Gerri’s world. With a little nudge from her best friend, she took up painting in a studio built right under the carport. At first, Gerri doubted her skills, but it didn’t take long for her to see she had a knack for it.
If you’re looking for Gerri at The Harbor, check her room—she might be scrapbooking—or head to the theater, where she’s probably working on a puzzle. She breezes through 1,000-piece puzzles like it’s nothing, a hobby that started way back when her father was in the Navy. With 31 years of service, there were plenty of hotel stays while waiting for ships, and her mother kept the kids busy with puzzles. That love for piecing things together stuck, and even now, her brother and sister share the same pastime.
Gerri is known for her kindness and her knack for making any space feel a little brighter. She’s a proud mother of two, a former member of the Old Autauga Historical Society, and she never turns down a trip to Hobby Lobby. Whether she’s crafting, puzzling, or painting, Gerri’s spirit of creativity is always close at hand.
